From The Archives - Talbot O'Farrell

Another item from the BMHS Archive – this is the top hat and case belonging to the popular radio, stage and film entertainer Talbot O’Farrell (1878 – 1952). His bill matter was ‘The greatest Irish entertainer of all time’. Michael Kilgarriff in his excellent book, ‘Grace, Beauty And Banjoes’ reveals that Talbot wasn’t Irish at all but was born in England as Will Parrot! He achieved only moderate success on the music halls as Jock McIver, a Scottish comedian and singer before finding stardom as the Irish balladeer ‘Talbot o’Farrell’.
