Music Hall Workshops with Joan and Barry Grantham

MH Workshop

The MUSIC HALL WORKSHOP, to be held in the highly conducive atmosphere of the Sands Films Studio, will seek to examine some of Music Hall’s techniques and traditions and also try to capture some of the spirit which once held audiences captive. To do this we will put the limelight on a series of key performers, examining in some detail the reasons for their appeal.

As there is a premium on what can be achieved in one weekend, those who register will be sent a guide sheet giving the names of the artistes we wish to study, (so they can be looked up on Wikipedia and You Tube!) and also the lyrics for some of the songs.  If you can, do come to the talk – WORKING THE HALLS on the Friday evening before (23rd JAN), as this will contain relevant material and show pictures of the performers we will be studying.

As the workshop is being lead by Barry there will be, as one would expect, plenty of ‘Eccentric’ dance and comic movement and we will be coached by Joan in the songs she knows so well.

Tony Leyton CD

Singer Tony Leyton, who appeared in many editions of Duggie Chapman’s hit touring show We’ll Meet Again, and has shared the stage with Reg Dixon, Ken Platt, Ronnie Ronalde, Tessie O’Shea and Danny La Rue, has produced a CD to raise money for Doncaster’s Hospice Appeal. Tony decided to compile the CD in memory of his late wife, Elaine.

Tony said: ‘All I have ever wanted to do is entertain and the songs on the CD are the ones Elaine always loved to hear me sing. Every penny from the sale of the CDs is going to the hospice appeal.”

Tony’s CD, called For The Love Of Elaine, costs £10 and includes songs made famous by Bing Crosby, Dickie Valentine, Donald Peers and Michael Holliday. To buy a copy, please ring St. John’s Hospice on 01302 798391.
