Study Group Meetings for 2015/6 Season Announced

Graeme Cruickshank Talk at CAA

The last BMHS Study Group meeting before the summer break takes place at 7.45pm on Thursday 11th June at the Club For Acts and Actors, 20, Bedford Street, Covent Garden. The guest speaker will be Graeme Cruickshank, talking on the life and career of Fanny Dango, Musical Comedy Star, 1878-1972.

Water Rats Show in Margate

Keith Simmons is producing a Water Rats show at the Winter Gardens, Margate on Sunday 27th September at 7pm.

Taking part will be Rick Wakeman, Adam Wakeman, Steve Hewlett, Kev Orkian, Adger Brown, Richard Gauntlett, Andre Vincent, Simmons and Simmons, Ken Joy, Glenn Ford, Derek Martin, Steve Etherington’s Jump and the girls and boys of the Thanet School of Dance and Performing Arts.

Tickets are £20 each (at tables of ten) or £17 in banked seating (further back). Box office is:  01843 296111. Basket meals are available.

150 Years Of Music Hall And Variety Exhibition in Morecambe

Morecambe Heritage is staging a wonderful exhibition of rare posters, photographs and programmes on variety and music hall from the collection of Ken Bowe. It is on view at Morecambe Heritage Centre, 215, Marine Road Central, Morecambe on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am – 4pm until the end of August. Group visits are available outside these hours by appointment only.

Variety of memories

At the British Music Hall Society’s 50th Anniversary Festival in 2013, a delightful film was shown featuring residents of Brinsworth House meeting students from a theatre group in North Manchester. Called Variety Of Memories, the film features Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson and the late Kenny Gibson and is introduced by the BMHS President Roy Hudd OBE.
