Barrie Stacey’s One Man Show at Wimbledon


Barrie Stacey will stage his one man show at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre on 25th and 26th September. Hosted by Keith Hopkins the performance times are Friday 25th at 7.45pm and Saturday 26th at 2.45pm and 7.45pm. Box office is 0844 871 7646. Tickets are from £12.

Barrie also features in West End Songbook at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon on September 16th and at the Kenneth More Theatre, Ilford on October 3rd.

Barrie, who is 89 in October, is probably the oldest working producer in the country. His latest two books are ,Love In the Afternoon (published on 31st August) and An Appointment With Fame ‘loosely based on his friend Jessie Matthews (available online and in bookshops).


Variety At Coventry and Hove This Autumn


Popular entertainer Andy Eastwood has been working with producer Brian Walker to produce a variety season at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry this autumn. The monthly shows take place on Thursdays at 1.30pm. On 17th September, Anita Harris, Steve Barclay,Van Buren and Allyson and Lorrie Brown  will appear in The Good Old Variety Days; on 15th October, The Big Laughter Afternoon features Johnny Casson, Adam Daye and Laura Glaves and on 5th November Spirit Of the Blitz – 75th Anniversary Tribute will star Marilyn Hill Smith, Judith Hibbert, Pete Lindup and Andy himself.  The theatre box office is: 024 7655 3055. In Hove, Steve Hewlett is staging A Night At the Hucklebuck at the Old Market, Hove on Friday 25th September at 8pm. Steve promises a whole host of special guests from the worlds of magic, circus, comedy and music, including Richard Digance,  in a special evening in memory to 39 year old Brighton comedian, magician and juggler Nathan Zahorchak, who died last year. All profits will be donated  to his wife and four children. Tickets are £15 (Concessions and children £10). Box Office: 01273 201801

BMHS Birthday Show

The BMHS Birthday Show takes place next Tuesday, 1st September 2015 at the Club For Acts And Actors. 20, Bedford Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9HP at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm and admission is by programme donation at door. Vice Chairman Adam Borzone (pictured above) will host proceedings and the evening promises  no less than 11 performers! A night not to be missed!

Music Hall and Variety Exhibition at Morecambe – Extended

Ken Bowe’s marvellous exhibition of music hall and variety memorabilia at the newly opened Heritage Centre in Morecambe has had its run extended until the end of September. This is a must-see for all fans of light entertainment.

Happy Birthday, Peter Sellers


On Tuesday 8th September at 7.30pm, on what would have been his 90th birthday, there will be a one-night only celebration of Peter Sellers presented by the British Film Institute’s Dick Fiddy, the Goon Show Preservation Society and the Lost Theatre at the Lost Theatre venue in Wandsworth. Amongst the guests invited to reminisce about Peter Sellers, are his daughter Sarah, Joe McGrath, Liz Frazer and Marcel Stellman. The evening will also feature clips of Sellers performing and being interviewed, plus an opportunity to see a specially filmed Goon Show which has not been televised for over 40 years!

Celebrating Leslie Stuart

The George Edwardes Musical Comedy Society will present Song-Writing For The Music Hall And The Early Musical Comedy Theatre: The Example Of Leslie Stuart at Westminster Reference Library on Wednesday 21st October from 10.30am – 4.30pm.

The programme for the day includes:

10.30-11.30: An illustrated presentation on the early career of Leslie Stuart

11.30 – 12.00: Coffee Break

12.00 – 13.00: The later career of Leslie Stuart

13.00 – 14.00: Lunch Break

14.00 – 16.30: A recreation of Leslie Stuart’s 1903 musical: The School Girl. 2 or 3 vocalists will sing the show’s songs while audience volunteers read the show’s dialogue.

Roy Hudd To Star In Wilton’s Panto

Our President Roy Hudd OBE will be making his first appearance in pantomime as Dame this Christmas when he dons  skirts for Dick Whittington at Wilton’s Music Hall, 1 Graces Alley, London, E1 8JB. Roy has also written the pantomime and it will be directed by Debbie Flitcroft.

The British Music Hall Society has organised a block booking for the matinee performance on Saturday 5th December at 2pm. Tickets for BMHS members will be £27. (Over 65s: £15).  If you wish to join the party that day, please send a SAE and a cheque (made payable to BMHS) ASAP to:
