The Royal Aquarium

The last BMHS Study Group of the season takes place next Thursday (9th June) at the Club For Acts and Actors, 20, Bedford Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9HP at 7.45pm. The presentation by Peter Evans has the intriguing title:

The Royal Aquarium: No Fish But A Lady Fired From A Cannon

All welcome. Voluntary donations (of £5) requested to help cover the cost of the meetings.


A Little Of What you Fancy

The Victorian Plums Music Hall Group will be staging a show for the British Music Hall Society next Tuesday evening 7th June at 7.30pm. Entitled A Little Of What You Fancy, the show will take place at the Club For Acts and Actors, 20, Bedford Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9HP.

Doors open at 7pm and we request a donation of £7 to help cover the costs of the evening.

“Good Old Days on June 10th


The successful run of repeats of the tremendously popular music hall show, The Good Old Days continues on BBC4. On June 10th  at 8pm, they will repeat a Christmas edition from 1974 starring Edward Woodward, Sheila Bernette, The King Singers, Wilma Reading, Ted Durante and Hilda, The Orlandos and Members of the Players’ Theatre Company.

Players Music Hall Company Show on July 3rd

The Players’ Music Hall Company will be performing Under the Arches at
The Charing Cross Theatre on Sunday 3rd July 2016 at 4pm and 7.30pm.
Taking part in the show will be Adam Borzone, Michael Chance, Philip Day, Andy Eastwood, Steve Hewlett, Peter John, Ross Tomlinson, Michelle Grant, Georgina Todd, Tiffany Todd and Helen Watson. Musical director is Andrew Faulkner and your worthy Chairman is Kevin Gauntlett.

Variety At The Belgrade, Coventry

Popular entertainer Andy Eastwood has organised 3 more variety shows for the autumn season at the Belgrade Theatre, Belgrade Square, Coventry, CV1 1GS.

On 16th September at 1.30pm The Good Old Music Hall Days will be a traditional old time music hall  starring  Bernie Clifton, Jan Hunt, Lorrie Brown and John Styles. Tickets are £13

On 14th October at 1.30pm, The Bachelors Show with John Stokes and his band recreating the sound and style of all the Bachelors’ hits, supported by Jimmy Carlo, Laura Graves and Andy himself.

Finally, on November 4th at 1pm, We’ll Meet Again – Commemorating The Coventry Blitz will recall the legendary songs and stars of the ’40s with Steve Barclay, Maggie O’Hara, Pete Lindup, Mervyn Francis and Andy.

All 3 shows will be backed by the Martyn St James Band.

Tickets: £13  but there is a new party rate of £11.50 for groups of 11 or more.

Good Old Days – The BBC4 Run Continues

Thank goodness for BBC4. They are showing yet another edition of The Good Old Days on Friday 3rd June at 8pm. Originally broadcast on 8th February 1974, the show stars Roy Castle, Jean Bayless, Gil Dova, Peter Wallis, Los Aguanitos and Members of  the Players’ Theatre Company.

Incidentally, The Call Boy published a lengthy interview with Jean Bayless in the Winter 2015 edition of the magazine



Music Hall Tour of Nunhead Cemetery

There will be a tour of the graves of music hall artistes buried at Nunhead cemetery on Sunday 14th August at 2.15pm. The tour will last approx. two hours  and is free but donations to the Friends of The Nunhead Cemetery would, of course, be gratefully received. Further information can be found at:

BBC4 will be showing another edition of the ever popular show, The Good Old Days on Friday 27th May at 8pm. Originally screened on 20th July 1973,the show will star Charlie Drake, Wilfred Pickles, Lorne Lesley, Hugh Paddick, Joan Sterndale Bennett, Stella Moray, Cheryl Taylor and our own British Music Hall Society Chairman Doreen Hermitage.
