Talk on Frank Matcham in Nottingham




This FREE event will take place on the Theatre Royal Dress Circle foyer at 1pm.  Doors and bar will be open from 12.15pm

Rupert Rhymes OBE, former Chair of the Society of West End Theatres and the Theatres Trust, will present this fascinating and informative talk about the life and career of this country’s most eminent theatre architect Frank Matcham.

Immediately following this talk the theatre will be hosting a memory afternoon where you will be able to see items from the Theatre Royal’s archive, as well as an opportunity to share your memories and donate items as part of the ongoing Our Theatre Royal Nottingham heritage work.

Maxie’s Big One on 28th June


The last of 3 matinees on Brighton Palace Pier  takes place next Wednesday 28th June –  this one has free entertainment throughout the day from 10am, including Magic, The Max Boys, Max unveiled! and at 2.30pm a special show in Horatio’s Bar, Christopher Green as Ida Barr plus Encore Duo sing-a-long support.   Admission £10 on the door, all show proceeds to the Mayor’s local charities.    It’s going to be a fun day!


The Good Old Days on Friday 30th June


After a couple of weeks break, BBC 4 is screening another edition of The Good Old Days on Friday 30th June at 8pm. The show, originally screened on 1st March 1979, stars John Inman, Rita Morris, The Balladiers, John Wade, Julie Royce, Raymond Bowers, Duo Barodies and Members of the Players’ Theatre Company. Leonard Sachs, as usual, is the Chairman.

BMHS Show at CAA Next Tuesday

On Tuesday 20th June at 7.30pm, the British Music Hall Society will present Saucy Salmagundi: an evening of great songs from both the East End and West End of London. BMHS Chairman Adam Borzone will be your host for the evening and he promises an array of talented artistes.

The show will take place at the Club For Acts & Actors, 20, Bedford Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9HP. Doors will open at 7pm. Voluntary donations towards the cost of the shows are greatly appreciated.

Hylda Baker Play on Radio 4


On BBC Radio 4 on Thursday 15th June at 2.15pm there will be a play about comedienne Hylda Baker. Called Our Hylda by Martyn Hesford it stars Alison Steadman as Hylda Baker and Justin Moorhouse as Jimmy Jewel.
