Midday Variety at Coventry

On Friday 1st February at 1.30pm at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, Andy eastwood will be presenting another session of Midday Variety. Joining Andy will be Helen Farrell, Steve Barclay, Dean Stansby, Romany and the London Philharmonic Skiffle Orchestra.

On Thursday 14th March, Andy returns with guests Simmons and Simmons, Bob Brolly and his Band and  Victoria Jones. The show will again commence at 1.30pm

The Good Old Days at City Varieties

goodolddaysOur President Roy Hudd headlines The Good Old Days at The City Varieties Theatre in Leeds  on Friday 15th March and Saturday 16th March. Supporting Roy will be Mat Ricardo, Judith Hibbert and Andrew Robley with Richard Gauntlett as Chairman.

On Friday 22nd March and Saturday 23rd March Billy Pearce will be the top of the bill supported by Peter John, Helen Watson and Edward Hilsum with Mark Walsh as Chairman.

In The Limelight’s February Meeting

The February meeting of In The Limelight will feature Anne Goulden with the 2nd part of her presentation on Wyn Davenport’s Autograph Album. What was travel to South America and South Africa like with a magic act in the 1920s? What other acts were on the bill?

To find out come along to the Club For Acts and Actors, 20, Bedford Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9HP on Thursday 7th February at 7.45pm. All welcome.

Voluntary donations towards the expenses of these meetings are greatly appreciated.

Billy Purvis Plaque

Billy Purvis, the enormously popular showman based in Newcastle, toured from Doncaster up to Dundee for 35 years between 1818 and 1853. In between tours returned to his home in the Close, Newcastle, and at 11.00am on 18 February 2019 a plaque will be unveiled there in his honour, followed by an entertainment in the Guildhall. All welcome.

Max Wall Society’s Dinner

March 12th is Max Wall’s birthday and will be celebrated by the Max Wall Society that evening at the National Liberal Club (close to Embankment Station) with a three-course dinner at which our president, Barry Cryer, will be presiding.  Tickets for the celebration are £50 each and are available to all who wish to come from our treasurer Jean Barham:  (jeanbarham1942@sky.com).  BMHS members are particularly welcome.
