Virtual Tour – Lost Empires: The Rise and Fall of the Music Hall in London

Footprints of London is organising a virtual tour called Lost Empires: The Rise and Fall of the Music Hall In London.

Music Hall and Variety on Film

Thursday 21st January 2021 -7.30pm

Presented by Keith Fawkes & Richard Norman

Keith and Richard recreate a favourite theme that has been highly successful at our previous meetings. From their collection they will present film clips of British music hall and American vaudeville acts combined with a potted history of the artiste. Their talk will include both well-known and lesser known artistes including – Zeb Carver and His Cousins, Gus Elen, G.H. Elliott, Ada Reeve, Betty Driver, Stanley and Lupino Lane, Ella Shields, Hal le Roy, Johnny Marvin, Al Bowlly, Ronald Frankau and Renee Roberts, Max Wall, Chez Chase, Arthur Askey, Billy Bennett and more.

An opportunity to relive those golden days of variety entertainment.

Tickets are £3 for members and £5 for non-members.

You only need to purchase 1 ticket per device rather then 1 ticket per member. The meeting opens at 7.15pm and the talk starts at 7.30pm.

The Call Boy – Winter Edition

The winter edition of The Call Boy has just been published and will be sent out to all BMHS members on 14th January 2021. The Call Boy is the official journal of the Society and is published four times a year in January, April, July and October. Vote For Roy! announced the shows that have made it to the final vote of their 2020 Awards and one of those is the excellent Roy Hudd Tribute from BBC Suffolk with Georgy Jamieson, which featured contributions from Debbie Hudd and BMHS Chairman Adam Borzone. You can vote for this tribute show under two headings: ‘Best Radio Entertainment Show’ and ‘Comedy Of The Year’.

British Music Hall Society’s Radio Shows on Angel Radio

The BMHS have spent the last 18 months producing a special 10 x 30 minute series of radio programmes with songs, music and stories from the archives of the British Music Hall Society…included are lots of the most popular songs plus those you may not have heard before.

Many recordings are by the original artistes of the Music Hall and early Variety, plus lots of stories and anecdotes too.

The series begins broadcasting on Angel Radio on Wednesday 6th January at 9.35pm for 10 weeks. They will all be repeated on Thursday mornings, starting on Thursday 7th January at 9am
