3 Events For Music Hall And Variety Day on Sunday 16th May

Music Hall And Variety Day was introduced last year by the British Music Hall Society to celebrate music hall and variety. The date (16th May) was chosen as it marks the birthday of our late President, Roy Hudd OBE, who passed away on 15th March 2020.

On Sunday 16th May, as well as regular posts on our social media platforms, we will be hosting 3 special events.

11am – A Virtual Walk Around Music Hall Brixton – a talk hosted by the Brixton Music Hall project team;

3pm – The London Palladium: The Home Of Variety – a talk by Mark Fox;

7pm – An evening with Kate Garner.

Tickets for all these events are now available from Ticketsource: £3 for BMHS Members and £5 for Non-Members. To book, just click on the link below:

In The Limelight Talk via Zoom on Thursday 15th April 2021

The next BMHS In The Limelight talk will take place via Zoom on Thursday 15th April at 7.30pm. Dr William Rough will give a presentation entitled Tawdry, Vulgar And The Sentiment Of The Lowest Music Hall‘: The Paintings Of Walter Richard Sickert, c.1888-c.1895.

In the late 19th century, the painter Walter Richard Sickert captured the music halls of London in a series of canvases. His depiction of the architecture, audiences and performers of a selection of London halls, including the Old Bedford, Gatti’s and the Marylebone, bring a unique insight into the ‘magic and poetry’ of the halls.
